Dear Mr Enlow: listen when I saw the carving u made of the man with the Zoot Suit it brought me back to my younger days in the 60’s. He has a hat and yellow socks. Your video on carving the ball in cage was helpful. I carved a ball in a cage and chain using basswood. I gave it to my son for Christmas. He loves it. He has asked me to finish it with a clear protective finish. Can you recommend a product or process to correctly finish the project with a clear protective finish? Thank you!

Hi Joe thanks for email
It would seem that there others that have the same knife sharpness problem as I do
Ie sharp but not sharp enough.
Can I ask a collective plea for a tutorial on the fine art of sharpness

Hi Joe,
Have not talked to you since last July and I thought I'd check out your website for anything new. The snowman is a neat project, easy to understand, and do. Thanks for the tutorial. I marvel at the
sharpness of your tools. I would enjoy a tutorial on how you sharpen yours. While I'm not doing too bad with keeping mine sharp, I still have not settled on a method that give Me what I want.
Thanks,

Just enjoyed watching your demo of Ball in a box, I'm 70 years old and have started woodcarving walking stick handles about 12months ago, you have inspired me to widen my horizons. My next project
will be to attempt the Ball in the box, or when I have finished perusing your web site it could be something else. you are an excellent teacher, more power to your elbow. -
Are you a teacher by vocation? I have watched many carving & demonstration videos. Yours sir is the best explained. I just watched the "ball in the box" videos & feel energized to attempt the
project. Thank you. -
I have been away from carving for a few years, lost interest, but now I am all ready to start my ball in the box. Was looking for interconnecting rings but this will be a good alternative.

Great video on how to carve a ball in a box! You're a very patient and thorough teacher.
-
Very much enjoyed your videos on carving the ball in cage project. I've done this before but I learned several techniques to make my carvings more precise. I would never have thought of using the
templates but it makes for a more exact ball. Thanks again and I look forward to more of your videos. -
Great site.
Many thanks for setting it up.
New to carving

Liked your videos. They inspire me.
-
I found you on YouTube and loved it!

Ok i have now trolled happily through your whole site, i am most impressed ... over the years i have whittled and carved, usually wood spirits, and small animals....... i like your work :D has
inspired me to do some more, although living on a narrowboat, the only work i can really do is hand carving and whittling, as i dont have the space or equipment any more to make larger pieces :D -
new to your site, caught your owl woodcarving on YouTube :)
-
Joe,
I really appreciate your exact directions in your two tutorials. It makes it easy to learn especialyy for a beginner as I am. -
Hi Ron - About 5 years ago wood carving illustrated magazine did a how to article on something very similar to what your Grandfather use to do. Instead of using a twig the article suggested a block
of basswood and showed you how to make a santa face with a twisted (two spirals) beard. Next time I go hiking I will pick up a twig and try carving two spirals. Are you a woodcarver? I dont have time
right now but hopefully in the future I will try to make a you tube video and on how to do that.
Thanks for the question !
Safe Carving

My grandfather used to whittle two spirals out of a single twig. Do you know to do this?
-
